Types of Sports Bets Explained
A quick reference to every bet type you will encounter on Betfair Exchange and traditional bookmakers — what each means, how it settles, and which Arbworld scanner covers it.
1X2 (Match Result)
The simplest bet: pick the home team to win (1), a draw (X), or the away team to win (2). Settled on the 90-minute result plus stoppage time. Extra time and penalty shootouts do not count. Available on Arbworld's Moneyway and Dropping Odds tables.
Over / Under goals
Bet on whether the total goals scored will be above or below a line set by the bookmaker — most commonly 2.5 goals, but also 1.5 and 3.5. A bet on "Over 2.5" wins if 3 or more goals are scored. An exact result on the line (e.g. exactly 2 goals on an Over/Under 2.0 market) results in a push/refund on most exchanges.
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
Predict whether both teams will score at least one goal (Yes or No). Unrelated to who wins or the final score — a 1–1 draw and a 5–1 win both settle as "Yes". Settled on 90 minutes.
Double Chance
Covers two of the three 1X2 outcomes in a single bet: 1X (home or draw), 12 (either team wins), or X2 (draw or away). Lower odds than a straight 1X2, but significantly higher chance of winning — useful when you are confident a team won't lose but unsure whether they'll draw or win.
Draw No Bet (DNB)
If the match ends in a draw, your stake is refunded. You only win if your selected team wins; you only lose if the other team wins. Effectively removes the draw option, giving a two-way market. Odds are lower than a straight Win bet but higher than Double Chance.
Correct Score
Predict the exact final score. Highest-variance market — long odds, large fields. Commonly combined with in-play data: a 0–0 scoreline at half-time with one team showing 85% of the Moneyway volume is a classic high-value setup for a 1–0 or 2–0 correct score bet.
Half Time / Full Time (HT/FT)
Predict the result at half time AND the result at full time — two separate predictions in one bet. Nine combinations exist (e.g. "Home / Home", "Away / Draw"). High odds because both parts must be correct. Arbworld tracks HT/FT Moneyway data for football.
Handicap betting
A virtual head-start or deficit is added to one team's final score for settlement purposes. Used when there's a strong favourite to create more balanced odds. See our full guide: What is Handicap Betting?
Moneyline
Common in US sports (NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL) and some European sports like ice hockey. Simply back one team to win — no draw option. In sports with draws (like soccer) it becomes equivalent to 1X2 without X. On Betfair Exchange, ice hockey and basketball typically use Moneyline markets. Arbworld covers Moneyline data for ice hockey and basketball.
